Winter weather advisory brings snow, slippery road conditions

Mother Nature is giving western Illinois a glimpse of what's going to be more common soon.

Snowfall that began late Saturday night is expected to continue into Monday morning, heavy at times, with a total of up to seven inches possible. That total is updated from early Sunday morning when the forecast called for 2 to 5 inches of snow. Now the minimum amont of snow weather forecasters are predicting for the Galesburg area is 5 inches.

The National Weather Service has issued a WINTER STORM WARNING until Monday at 12 p-m. The system that's dropping the snow across the area is expected to be gone by sometime Monday and make way for a warmer day on Tuesday.

The snow that's fallen on Sunday is making for very slippery travel on Galesburg area roads, especially the secondary roads. Knox County deputies have been busy tending to several accidents, including a vehicle that was reportedly on its top near the Knoxville exit on Interstate 74. No injuries were reported in that mishap.

Drivers are urged to take their time, even allow a little extra time to get to where you are going, buckle up and slow down when out on the roads Sunday and Monday.
